帰国の服を何にするか悩んでいる妹です。服の整理がいつまで経っても終わらない。

今回は日本のファッションについて。なかなか偏りが変わらずあるけれど、興味深い！

よく海外で使われるkawaiiファッションはだいたい原宿系かロリータ・ファッションかゴス・ロリのことを言っているのだと思っている。

最近の若い女性のファッションは・・・

Compared to women in other countries, Japanese women in their 20s and 30s tend wear “cute” outfits which seem to be for teenage girls. On the contrary, quite a few teenage girls enjoy the gyaru (gal) style, in which they wear thick make-up and have a hairdo that is big, colored and curled. They also wear sexy mini dresses and high-heeled shoes and try to look like kyabakura (hostess club) ladies, who are currently popular among these type of girls.

他の国の女性と比べて、20代、30代の女性は10代のようなかわいらしい洋服を着ている姿がよく見られます。一方、10代の少女たちは髪を染めたり巻いたりした大きな髪型と、濃い化粧をしたりする「ギャル」ファッションを好みます。彼女たちはときにセクシーな短いドレスやハイヒールを履き、最近人気があるキャバクラ(ホステスクラブ)の女性たちのようを姿をしようとしたりもします。

海外ブランドが好き！

Many foreigners who visit Japan are surprised to know that Japanese women tend to have luxury brand goods such as bags, wallets, clothes, and shoes. In fact, the highest percentage of sales for these types of global fashion brands are in Japan. The women who buy these expensive brand goods are usually living with their parents, and, until recently, used to be called “parasite singles.”

日本を訪れる多くの外国人たちは日本人女性が高級ブランドのバッグ、財布、洋服、靴なｄを持っていることに驚きます。世界的に有名なブランドの売り上げの大きな割合を日本が占めているのです。こうした高いブランド・グッズを買う女性たちの多くは両親とともに実家に住んでおり、最近まで「パラサイト・シングル」と称されていました。

日本の着物文化

Kimino, a Japanese traditional garment, is a T-shaped, straight-lined robe with wide sleeves. It is wrapped around the body tightly with a wide belt. There are different kinds of kimono to wear depending on the season, occasion and one’s marriage status. Unmarried women would wear furisode (a long-sleeved kimono), but once they are married it’s not proper etiquette to wear it. The light kimono worn in summer is called yukata.

着物とは、広い袖を持つT型のまっすぐな形をした日本伝統の衣服です。体の周りにきつく巻かれ、太い帯で締めます。着物には、季節、場面、独身かどうかなどによって違う種類のものがあります。未婚女性は長い袖の振袖を着ることがありますが、一旦結婚したらそれを着るのはマナー違反になります。夏に着る軽い着物は「浴衣」と呼ばれます。

 

学校の制服

In many Japanese junior high schools, high schools, and some elementary schools, students are required to wear school uniforms. Girls usually wear either a dark-blue blazer with a skirt or pants, or sailor suits, while boys wear gakuran (military style uniforms). At the start of 20th century, Japan imported many educational system from the West and sailor suits have been popular since then.

日本の多くの中学校と高校、そしていくつかの小学校では、学生たちは制服を着なくてはいけません。女子学生はたいてい紺色のブレザーにスカートかズボン、またはセーラー服、男子学生は軍人風の制服を着ます。２０世紀初頭、日本は西欧から多くの教育システムを取り入れ、それ以来セーラー服は人気となりました。

オフィスのファッションについて

The Japanese “salaryman” usually wears a dark-colored business suit with “not-too-brightly-colored” neckties. There are many apparel shops that focus on cheap business suits for men. One of the latest models is a washable suit that doesn’t required dry cleaning.  in banks and other conservation offices, women usually wear dark blue uniforms.

日本の「サラリーマン」はあまり明るくない色のネクタイで濃い色のスーツを着ています。安いビジネススーツに特化した衣料店もたくさんあります。最新スーツモデルのひとつは、洗濯機で洗えるタイプのもので、これがあれば男性たちはクリーニングに行かなくてもいいのです。銀行その他のやや保守的な会社では、女性はたいてい紺色の制服を見に付けています。
